Johnson & Johnson's advanced-technology biologics manufacturing facility in Wilson, North Carolina, managed by Janssen Biotech, produces transformational therapies across its Innovative Medicine portfolio. The project was announced October 1, 2024 and Johnson & Johnson broke ground on March 21, 2025, with the site expected to be fully operational by 2028. AFT records approximately 420 full-time operating jobs — process technicians, laboratory analysts, engineers and microbiologists — per the original announcement; the later "more than 500" figure blends specialized employees with contractors and is not a clean permanent operating-job commitment. The approximately 5,000 construction jobs are excluded and are never combined with permanent employment, as is Johnson & Johnson's $55 billion national manufacturing, research-and-development and technology commitment.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers are committing billions to new U.S. production capacity for active ingredients, injectable medicines, biologics and other high-demand treatments. North Carolina and Indiana remain major centers of investment, while new facilities are being planned across the South.
