Jackson County Battery Manufacturing Expansion

SK Battery America announced an additional 430,000-square-foot lithium-ion battery-manufacturing plant in Jackson County, Georgia. The separately dated expansion added $940 million in investment and 600 new permanent jobs beyond the original $1.67 billion / 2,000-job campus commitment. It is operational as part of the Georgia battery complex. AFT does not replace these phase-specific figures with later cumulative campus totals.

Why it matters

The battery manufacturing context.

Battery manufacturing has become one of the largest concentrations of new industrial investment in the United States. A network of cell plants is taking shape across the Midwest and Southeast, connecting automakers, battery producers, critical-material suppliers and energy-storage markets. Federal production incentives have accelerated that build-out, while the next test will be whether announced capacity converts into sustained domestic production.
