Nucor invested $650 million to expand and modernize its Gallatin sheet mill in Ghent, adding a new electric-arc furnace and thin-slab casting equipment. The project increased flat-rolled steel capacity, created approximately 70 permanent jobs and entered its operational ramp during 2022–2023.

The steel context.

American steelmakers are building a new generation of electric-arc-furnace mills alongside expanded sheet, plate, rebar and coating lines. Nucor, U.S. Steel, Cleveland-Cliffs, Steel Dynamics, CMC, BlueScope and Hyundai Steel are adding capacity for automakers, construction and grid infrastructure across the industrial Midwest, Southeast and Southwest.
