Tuscaloosa (Vance) Plant Investment Program

Mercedes-Benz announced a $4B investment program through 2030 at its existing Tuscaloosa County vehicle assembly plant. This is reinvestment in an existing manufacturing facility, not a new factory. The plant is scheduled to add GLC SUV production alongside its existing SUV operations. AFT counts only the $4B allocated to this plant, excluding the broader $7B-plus U.S. program and approximately 5,800 existing employees. No new permanent operating-job figure was disclosed.

Why this project qualifies

With $4 billion in facility-specific investment, this project clears AFT's $100 million investment threshold (AFT includes any project meeting $100 million in facility-specific investment OR 100 permanent operating jobs). This project also meets AFT's primary-source verification and physical U.S. manufacturing-footprint requirements.

The automotive context.

Automotive manufacturing is expanding across the United States.
