Johnson & Johnson's next-generation cell-therapy plant at 1201 Sumneytown Pike in Lower Gwynedd Township, Montgomery County, will manufacture personalized cell therapies for cancer, immune-mediated diseases and neurological diseases. The February 18, 2026 announcement described an investment of more than $1 billion and more than 500 permanent skilled biomanufacturing jobs across the project's phased development; AFT records the conservative $1 billion and 500-job floors. Manufacturing is expected to begin in 2031. Construction was scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, but no confirmed groundbreaking was found as of September 1, 2026, so the record remains in Planning. Excluded from these figures: the more than 4,000 construction jobs, the 5,885 retained Pennsylvania positions, Pennsylvania's $41.5 million public-support package, and Johnson & Johnson's $55 billion national commitment.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers are committing billions to new U.S. production capacity for active ingredients, injectable medicines, biologics and other high-demand treatments.
