$1.2 billion second-phase expansion of FUJIFILM Biotechnologies' (formerly FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies — the legal entity name used in the original 2021 and 2024 announcements, rebranded FUJIFILM Biotechnologies on June 2, 2025) Holly Springs, North Carolina cell culture campus, announced April 11, 2024. It adds two production modules with eight additional 20,000-liter bioreactors — doubling total site capacity to sixteen bioreactors — and 680 new highly skilled jobs (average salary approximately $110,000), with hiring beginning in 2027 and running through 2031. Expansion capacity is scheduled to come online in early 2028; argenx was named in September 2025 as the first confirmed second-phase tenant, with FUJIFILM to manufacture drug substance for efgartigimod at the site starting in 2028. Separately tracked from the 2021 first-phase facility. AFT records only the incremental $1.2 billion and 680 jobs; the original $2 billion / 725 jobs, the cumulative more-than-$3.2 billion campus total, and FUJIFILM's rounded ~1,400-jobs-by-2031 campus goal are excluded from these figures to prevent double counting. Job-figure reconciliation: AFT preserves the itemized incremental announcements — 725 (by end-2028) plus 680 (by 2031) = 1,405 — and treats FUJIFILM's later '1,400 by 2031' language as a rounded campus goal rather than a separate or superseding commitment. Customer capacity commitments hosted at the campus (Johnson & Johnson $2B/10-year, Regeneron $3B/10-year and argenx) are supplier agreements excluded from FUJIFILM facility investment; construction jobs and public incentives are also excluded.
