Lafayette Large Engine Manufacturing Expansion

Caterpillar is expanding its Lafayette Large Engine Center with a $725 million facility-specific investment: $625 million in new manufacturing equipment and $100 million to add 325,000 square feet of manufacturing space. The expansion increases capacity to build and test new engines, genset packages and aftermarket components supporting Caterpillar’s Energy & Transportation segment and growing power demand. Lafayette’s project record supports 100 new full-time permanent jobs; AFT excludes the 1,895 retained jobs, tax abatements, construction employment, indirect jobs, supplier jobs and any companywide spending. Caterpillar confirmed the project had broken ground in August 2024. Lafayette estimated project completion by December 31, 2027, but no operations-opening date was announced, so AFT records Under Construction with no structured opening date. This is separate from Caterpillar’s Seguin, Texas, large-reciprocating-engine capacity expansion.
