AstraZeneca's CAR-T cell-therapy manufacturing facility at 9950 Medical Center Drive in Rockville, Montgomery County, Maryland (within the Alexandria Center for Life Science - Shady Grove campus, held on a 13-year lease). Announced February 6, 2024 with a $300 million AstraZeneca investment and more than 150 permanent skilled jobs; AFT records the $300 million and the 150-job floor. The site manufactures cell therapies for clinical trials and future commercial supply, with capacity for up to 4,000 patients annually. It is Operational — the facility officially opened May 5, 2025 and later received a 2026 ISPE Facility of the Year Award. Excluded: $500,000 in Maryland Department of Commerce support and $100,000 in Montgomery County incentives, and AstraZeneca's November 2024 $3.5 billion and July 2025 $50 billion U.S. rollups, which are not counted as project capital and do not re-count this $300 million.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers are committing billions to new U.S. production capacity for active ingredients, injectable medicines, biologics and other high-demand treatments. North Carolina and Indiana remain major centers of investment, while new facilities are being planned across the South.
