Expansion of AstraZeneca's flagship biologics manufacturing facility in Frederick, Maryland, announced November 21, 2025. It nearly doubles the site's commercial manufacturing capacity and, for the first time, enables U.S. production of AstraZeneca's rare-disease portfolio, expected fully operational in 2029. AFT records 200 new permanent highly skilled jobs. Investment is intentionally recorded as undisclosed/unallocated: AstraZeneca announced a combined $2 billion Maryland package (approximately $1.81 billion capex) across both Frederick and the new Gaithersburg clinical-manufacturing facility, and neither AstraZeneca nor Maryland state/county primary records allocate the capital between the two sites. AFT does not invent a split and does not attribute the entire $2 billion to either location; both facilities are tracked through their independently qualifying permanent-job commitments. Excluded: the approximately 900 construction jobs, the unallocated $2 billion package figure, Maryland's 10% investment match (including $116.5 million from the capital budget), and AstraZeneca's July 2025 $50 billion U.S. rollup.
