ASML Wilton Manufacturing Expansion

ASML's Wilton campus builds precision components for the lithography machines chipmakers use to print circuits, including optics and reticle-handling systems. The $200 million expansion announced in May 2022 adds space for optical fabrication and cleanroom assembly supporting ASML's EUV systems, its most advanced machines. Construction began in September 2022, and ASML planned 450 additional manufacturing-focused positions at the site.

Connecticut Post reported in September 2022 that ASML planned 450 additional manufacturing-focused positions at Wilton. AFT records that announced increase; the separately reported design-and-engineering and supply-chain positions are not included because their qualifying scope has not been established.

Why this project qualifies

With $200 million in facility-specific investment and 450 permanent operating jobs announced, this project clears both of AFT's qualifying thresholds ($100 million in facility-specific investment OR 100 permanent operating jobs). It is also confirmed by official public sources and involves a physical manufacturing facility in the United States.

Why it matters

The semiconductors context.

Semiconductor fabrication plants, known as fabs, rank among the most capital-intensive industrial facilities ever built—often requiring $10–$30 billion and several years from groundbreaking to initial production. The CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 accelerated a U.S. construction cycle spanning advanced chip fabrication, legacy-node production, semiconductor equipment, packaging, and critical materials. These projects create long-term manufacturing footprints while attracting suppliers, infrastructure investment, and specialized technical work.
