Calvert Electrical Steel Facility

ArcelorMittal is building a non-grain-oriented electrical-steel facility in Calvert, with capacity of up to 150,000 metric tons annually for electric motors, generators and other industrial applications. The announced investment is $1.2 billion. AFT records 200 permanent jobs as a conservative floor of the announced "more than 200" positions. Up to 1,300 construction jobs, the separate Calvert electric-arc-furnace project and acquisition spending are excluded. Investor materials separately report approximately $900 million in net capital expenditure; this is not additional investment. The $1.2 billion investment was confirmed on February 6, 2025.

Why this project qualifies

With $1.2 billion in facility-specific investment and 200 permanent operating jobs announced, this project clears both of AFT's qualifying thresholds ($100 million in facility-specific investment OR 100 permanent operating jobs). This project also meets AFT's primary-source verification and physical U.S. manufacturing-footprint requirements.
